All my 4's I have made have been 16" wide at the head box and taper out to 20" at the discharge end. What you basically have made is a 2" dredge that will pass 4" rocks. When you can crank up that pump to it's max you will be a lot happier with the size of hole you can make.

Steve, I think in my mind at least I am wanting to put a six inch sluice with a crash box on a four inch float/frame set up with twin 6 HP P180. My thought is I can cut the sluice to half the length add new matting shorten the jet system and end up with a light weight high production dredge. You had a dredge with a Marlex jet/flair.

When you use a crash box / highbanker you'll need a bit more pitch than a normal dredge that "shoots" water in. Also, it depends on what you're using in the sluice. Set up like a reg highbanker, but be prepared to adjust.
